Mulligan

// by jimmeh // April 6th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Uncategorized

Based on Tim’s tweet, he asked why God doesn’t allow mulligans, which made me think what if you got 1 mulligan a year.  I’m pretty sure that on an average year (one that did not include terrible accidents or loss of loved ones, etc.)  I would save my mulligan all year and end up using it on December 31 for something dumb.

My mulligan so far this year is trusting a particular mortgage banker.  Yours?

Out with the old…
We had a busy year.  Some of the bigger events included:

  • Bought a Yorkshire puppy
  • Cloninger Family Reunion was in Branson, MO
  • Bought a new(er) car: ‘03 Sante Fe
  • Leah flew to Montana for a week
  • Tabitha had an extended stay
  • The May family drove down from Montana for a few days
  • We took a train ride to Montana for Christmas: Leah and I (and our two foster kids), Jason, Bekah, Caleb, Anna and Tommy.

And the two biggest events last year:

  • Received our foster license & fostered 3 kids
  • Bought a house

…in with the new

  • The wife and I have an official date night.  Don’t bother us on Mondays.
  • Leah is no longer working full-time (yikes)
  • We’re having a baby, due in June

NYC

No time to talk.  Third day in NYC, 3 hrs of sleep in two days…doesn’t look like I’m going to get much more than that tonight.

…and it doesn’t look like we’re going to come remotely close to our target of 400 DVD sets.

I’ll explain later.  :)

There’s something wrong when it costs more to fly from Tucson to Chicago, than from New York City to Costa Rica.

speeding?

So I was thinking about a time I was pulled over in Nilbog (which is actually Nilwood, but I call it Nilbog, because I saw this movie about goblins, and no one understood why there were goblins in this town until a kid saw the town name in a mirror and realized is was goblin spelled backwards) by a cop because I was going 50-something in the 45.  It made me think:

Must I decelerate to 45 by the time I hit the 45 mph sign, or start to decelerate to 45 as soon as I hit the sign.  If the former is true and not that latter, which seems to be what the police follow, shouldn’t I accelerate back to 55 by the time I hit the 55 mph sign?  I feel that would be a compromise.

Wireless Serenity

I have often had difficulty in allowing myself simple relaxation and/or behaving appropriately in calming situations, appropriately being a state of contentment.  Until today.  Verizon Wireless customer service has shown me what it is like to achieve this high and magical state professed by some as total relaxation.  I often correlated relaxation with lack of responsibility and necessary or timely activities, but I now know that this is wrong.  Verizon Wireless customer service has shown me that relaxation is achieved through utter hopelessness.  My simple problem has a simple solution, but to the simple minded is indecipherable.  Which leaves me in complete and utter hopelessness.  Knowing that “all is lost,” “there is nothing to gain,” “this is as good as it’ll ever get,” ”all my eggs have fallen out of the one basket,” truly is an alleviating and freeing emotion, and I feel that it is the true heart of relaxation.  Thank you Verizon; without you I would suffer the stress of an ordinary life’s day.  Although it would be with good reception.
